Today’s world is too small for nations to resort to petty disputes that have always had reverberating consequences for the populations of their nations. In fact, they have had drastic after effects for the whole world. The United States is not alone in exasperating global conditions. But we have been involved in creating major upheavals and so-called regime change in countries all over the world. Since the Korean conflict we have worked our way through foreign policy after foreign policy. Since then, no action has been for the benefit of US citizens.

In too many cases, when certain nations assert a degree of negative authoritarianism to control others, the United States, in turn, has always responded with threats, sanctions, and warnings that have never produced a harmonious result. Today, no different, the potential for more instability has risen again. The recent evacuation in Afghanistan, the ongoing saber rattling from North Korea, the ongoing Russian instability in the Ukraine, and other hot spots around the world have intensified.

To help alleviate growing global instability, the organizations that have been established to foster a measure of ease in goodwill, trade, and commerce have long been inconsistent in doing what they originally set out to do. NATO is one such organization that was created to unite Europe and the United States in a combined effort to protect themselves from hostile actions by any nation against any other. In the exclusion of countries like Russia due to various regulations that the existing NATO countries put in place only encourages a form of isolation and not inclusion. Regardless of your political ideologies, the world today is too small to encourage backlash by being excluded from organizations that should foster a more harmonious world.

When NATO was formed, countries like Russia and China were excluded because their political systems were not in line with Western democracy. As a result, he created a riff that has thrown the entire world into a dilemma of mounting storms that have only been exasperated by America’s unwillingness to compromise. The United States now has to realize that in order to bring balance to the world we have to accept the fact that every nation has the right to participate in negotiations that have a direct impact on their society.

NAFTA is another organization that continues to challenge the limits of good faith between nations. When NAFTA was formed, it only encouraged more instability in the world today. Free trade has kept the gravy train running for big corporations and politicians. The imbalances that so many countries have, especially the United States, are a direct result of our trade policies and agreements.

To help alleviate the global instability that has arisen, the United States must realize that free trade is not working. That is the first step. Once our government realizes this, the course of action will be to establish a trade balance agreement between all nations. When there is a balance of trade between countries, greater stability in societies will begin. When more nations have societies in balance, less hostile repercussions are encouraged around the world.

The failures of our government and past administrations have only added to growing insecurities around the world. They have never created a climate for the rejuvenation of the quality of life for all Americans. As a result, today more than 70% of Americans live at or below the poverty line. When there is so much imbalance in society, the results have been and continue to be more instability, which is the driving force behind the great divisions in our nation today. It is essential that the United States usher in policies that create unification rather than division in every policy directive that comes out of Washington.

Fortunately, there is a directive that would create unification between nations and in our own country. It is a sad commentary for our times that this directive remains hidden behind the corruption and red tape that have plagued the halls of government.
