When it comes to the right gear for transporting your baby on vacation, choosing something that’s comfortable for you and safe for your baby is paramount. With that being said, you might also want to consider what it will look like with one of these gadgets. A front pack or sling bag isn’t for everyone, and neither is a backpack.

These are the most popular modes of baby transport, and their advantages and disadvantages.

slings

These are not for all babies, obviously. Keep your baby’s weight in mind when shopping for a baby carrier for your trip. Also, they are not meant to be worn for long periods of time. Any type of baby carrier, whether it’s a sling, front pack, or backpack, has its own share of stress involved. There is no point in having a baby carrier that leaves you feeling tried and uncomfortable. Borrow the backpack from a friend and try it out at home for a few hours straight to see if it’s for you. The biggest advantage of baby carriers is that they offer small babies a relaxed position and are perfect for nursing on the go. There’s no need to rush to find a bathroom when it’s time to eat and no need to scramble for blankets and covers.

Front packs and backpacks

These make moving through rugged territory easier. If you plan to walk long distances, pushing a stroller can be cumbersome, especially if you’re out of town. A hands-free baby carrier is a great option, and the chance to experience sights and sounds keeps baby busy and happy, too. As with slings, try on a backpack or front pack at the store before buying one. They don’t look particularly attractive to some women, and there’s no point in wearing something that makes you feel bad.

strollers

With a stroller, you’ll have your hands full all the time, but you’ll look so much better than when you’re wearing a backpack or front pack. A baby in a front pack means you are at risk of small accidents like vomiting. Not so with strollers. Also, strollers are relaxing and babies fall asleep faster.

Whatever type of equipment you plan to use, make sure it is washed, fresh, and clean on d-day. Choose washable slings and front or rear packs if you want to avoid looking like a mess on your ride.
