Trends and styles vary greatly from country to country, and even from city to city. Whether traveling to Russia, Berlin, or Tel Aviv, the drastic differences in fashion are likely to give anyone a bit of a culture shock. Whether you’re planning to travel the world or just interested in what fashion is like in other countries, below are some of the major cities and some of the current trends there.

  • St. Petersburg: When it comes to Russian style, it’s all about dressing well. No matter where you’re going, even if you just want to wear sweatpants, they better be cute sweatpants from Victoria’s Secret, not the ugly gray ones that make you look like an American. If a woman wants to fit in, she must have her hair, makeup and nails perfectly groomed at all times. Russian women like to look good. They prefer sexy clothes, like skinny jeans and low-cut tops. If it’s cold (of course it will be), you should wear a fur coat that reaches your waist, skinny jeans, and very high heels. If you want to stand out, you can wear flat shoes if you are a woman and tennis shoes if you are a man. Sneakers are only appropriate if you go to the gym. Having said that, Russians like the style, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be an expensive style. You can also get wholesale dresses as long as they look expensive.
  • Tel Aviv: Israel is an interesting place, and you will find that the country is filled with many different styles. But, in general, the Israeli style is about comfort. Actually, it is the complete opposite of the Russian style. You will very rarely see an Israeli girl in very high stilettos, even in a nightclub. The Israeli style is quite relaxed, even hippie. It is common to see both men and women sporting dreadlocks and wearing vintage clothing. Women like to wear baggy jean shorts, cute dresses they can ride a bike in, and always comfy sandals. Israel is generally a very mountainous place, so comfortable shoes are a must. Israel is so laid back with its style that you are likely to see people wearing jeans to weddings.
  • Sedan: Berlin is one of the world’s leading fashion capitals, and you’ll see some original trends here that you probably won’t see anywhere else. There are some major trends that are popular in Berlin, but “hipster” is definitely in. This is a city that definitely knows how to party, and the fashion you see on the streets proves it. The style can be described as anything but conventional, mismatched and anything goes. They like 80’s clothing, high top sneakers, multiple layers of clothing, and original hair. The style has a Tokyo-like feel, but maybe a little rougher around the edges. If you are looking for originality, this is the place to go.
