Improving one’s church development depends primarily on having the right people on the right jobs. In choosing leaders or key people to be placed in the correct ministries such as: planning, equipment, music, praise and worship, maintenance, children, youth, men, women, etc. It would always be wise to choose spiritual maturity above anything else. There will be some members who have the technical and intellectual competence, but if their hearts are not ready to serve, problems may come down the road.

However, this does not mean that mature but untalented people should fill key positions. This is where training comes in. It will not be easy and it may take some time before members can become efficient and effective leaders. However, it is important to note that it is worth the wait because more mature Christians are more meek and humble than children in spirit.

If it seems that there are no mature individuals available, then it is better to nurture them first; wait until they are mature for service before expanding the ministry. For example, if a new convert is assigned the task of teaching Sunday school, there is a danger that he may teach concepts that are contrary to biblical truths or the tradition of denominations due to his lack of knowledge and experience. . Choosing mature members would probably prevent other members from tripping because they would be more kind and patient with their peers.

The first thing you should do is spend a reasonable amount of time in prayer. It is in prayer and Bible study that churches draw strength, wisdom, and guidance. Recognizing one’s helplessness apart from God, God is pleased and opens the gates of heaven to bless seekers.

After praying, it would be beneficial to consult with some elders. In cases where only the pastor can be considered mature in the church, he/she can get advice from other pastors in other churches. Trusted persons must discern God’s will for the church and must be careful to keep everything they have discussed confidential so as not to hurt the feelings of others.

After careful consultation and prayer, leadership training and identification of member gifts and talents should be conducted. The invitation to attend the trainings can be announced during the worship service because there may be some members who are truly mature but new to the church and so that everyone has the same opportunities to be equipped. Most likely, the immature have various excuses.

An individual commitment and consecration must be made to emphasize the responsibility of each member in the task at hand. It is not good to be affected by the number. Sometimes only a few will commit, but it is better to have few volunteers than to manage a group of immature and unprepared leaders.

Although members can volunteer, they need to be informed of the seriousness of the matter and that they are not doing the task to feel good about themselves but to please God and build up the church.

When these things have been accomplished, continue to encourage each member to engage in prayer, evaluation, and finding solutions to problems. Developing unity in diversity can help a church develop in quality and quantity.
