Setting a goal to lose weight has its drawbacks. It’s hard to measure unless, of course, you set a goal of losing a number of pounds over a number of weeks or months.

The problem with a goal like this is that it lacks definitive action.

It is easier to set a healthy life goal.

Then you can decide the steps to take to achieve your goal.

A healthy life goal means eating more healthy foods and being more physically active.

That doesn’t mean you have to go all out and become a fitness freak overnight.

It is important to take small steps to get your body used to the changes.

Focus on healthy lifestyle instead of your waistline.

What task is easier?

To lose weight or change your diet.

Focus on the actions rather than the outcome, as the outcome will be a product of the actions.

When I participated in athletics and training, I had my goals, like beating my personal best times in middle distance and road races, but my focus was on what I had to do to achieve those goals. He wasn’t going to set personal best times unless he trained for it.

The elite athletes who perform their best at the Olympics make it all seem so easy, but what you see are the results of years of hard work and sacrifice. Everything requires concentration.

The key to all of this is passion. No one can put their body through all this discipline unless they are passionate about what they are doing. It is passion that drives perseverance.

As an athlete, I was not blessed with a great deal of talent, but I made the most of my ability to perform at my best.

What does all this have to do with losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle?

It’s about living your best life.

An unhappy and unsatisfied life will sabotage your efforts to lose weight because you will always find an excuse to eat comforting if you are trying to lose weight or miss a day of training if you play sports.

The bottom line is this: if you don’t feel like getting up in the morning, you need to make changes.

Think about what you used to enjoy doing when you were younger. Is it possible to take up some of these old interests?

Getting involved in something you are passionate about will get you off the couch and away from the television and that can undermine your healthy living goals if you don’t keep it in check. Remember the old saying “Use it or lose it”.

Taking a balanced approach to life is the way to go when working towards a healthy life.
