Many global military and defense industry analysts are concerned about the advance of Chinese naval forces. And for good reason, as it looks like the Treasure Fleet is sailing again and Admiral Zhang is on the bridge. Those who underestimate China’s future sea power do not understand history, or the Chinese people’s ability to think big and then execute their large-scale long-term plans with deadly agility and force.

If we look at some of the recent news on naval weaponry and advanced naval vessels, we see some interesting things here in April 2009. First, China has been fairly quiet in building its Navy, but now the nation is showing its momentum toward becoming a the world’s second superpower. The nation is now going to show off some of its progress at sea, according to this global headline:

Chinese navy showcases hi-tech submarines for world as show

The interesting thing about displaying a submarine is that you can’t really say much about it, since much of what you’re looking for will be below the waterline. However, the antennas that go to some of its electronic equipment are what make the boat a true sea monster. Size matters too, meaning you can carry more weapons and stay underwater longer. Therefore, no one should underestimate the Chinese applet.

Still, the US Navy, the largest naval force ever assembled belonging to the most powerful nation in human history, also announced the purchase of some new ships with this recent headline:

General Dynamics Wins Tender to Supply 5 US Navy DGS 1000 Destroyers

Well, what can we say, except these stealthy shore boars are more than perfect for hunting pirates, drug dealers on the water, or anything anywhere that wants to show off. Interestingly, some say that this is also the perfect time after Captain Richard Phillips’ incident with the pirates. Are the two related? Some conspiracy theorists might think so, but these pirates have been a pain in the butt for quite some time, so this was to be expected.
