Every day young people are exposed to sexual stimuli from pornographic magazines, novels, music, television, and movies. The influence of “western culture” on young people has done more harm than good. The implications of such exposure are the high incidence of premarital sexual activities among young people, as is often reported in the media. Furthermore, that these encounters are not planned and precautions are not taken is obvious from the increasing cases of unwanted pregnancies, induced abortions, and cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Basically, the problem of indiscriminate sexual behavior among the youth of the society has become the most threat to the entire human existence in the context of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. In fact, no disease in human history has threatened humanity like the threat of HIV/AIDS. Today, the disease poses the greatest medical challenge for both scientists and researchers. For this reason, people’s unbridled sexual behavior has come under intense scrutiny in an attempt to control the spread of the disease.

Morale seems to have been undermined, especially among the youth in the future hope of the nation, the light of tomorrow, and the future leaders of this great country, much is expected of them for the survival and livelihood of this country.

Furthermore, that our universities produced most of the best character and learning graduates in our society in the past is not up for debate anywhere, but can this still be said of our universities today? Your answer is as good as mine. This is a very big and serious challenge that still affects universities and even other higher learning institutions in the country. Guess what? Our universities, which are meant to be centers of excellence and inculcation of good manners and other virtues, have become a haven of immorality. This recession demands immediate and serious national attention from the proper authorities. In most cases, the outrageous dress sense of the female students is meant to attract and seduce their male colleagues and even the teachers.

Another form of sexual behavior, which is really the extreme of human degradation that has pervaded our society in general, is the issue of commercial sex also known as prostitution; it is becoming more and more a way of life among our youth. Many of the young women see nothing wrong with having sex with men they barely know and receiving a monetary or material reward from them. Likewise, males (gigolos) date older women for material gain. Themes of love, care, intimacy, and commitment, as well as an emphasis on personal responsibility, are no longer considered vital in most relationships. The slogan; “money for hands, back for land” sums up the degree of moral decline among the youth.

However, the observation that the increase in unwanted or unplanned pregnancies, abortions and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among young people has presented evidence of a high level of promiscuity among them (young people), not much has been done to stop this unpleasant situation. With this high rate of sexual immorality among young people, the economic and socio-cultural life and the future of our society are seriously threatened; especially in the context of deadly sexually transmitted diseases.

The possible recommendation is the need for us as a people to return to the traditional altruistic system of our cultural values and what it teaches, so that in our search for modernity, our cultural values are not completely lost.

In addition, there is a greater need for more serious moral and sexual education to be provided in homes and in schools, especially high schools. Churches and mosques should place more emphasis on moral preaching and teaching, to educate young people about the consequences of immoral sexual activity.

However, it should be noted that a higher percentage of young men than women engage in indiscriminate sexual behavior in an effort to satisfy their personal needs. The government should try to address the country’s socio-economic problems by creating employment opportunities and making other basic necessities of life available, affordable and accessible to the people.

Finally, the government must monitor the nature and type of information and cultural values that are being broadcast on radio and television stations, especially in the area of pornography (blue films) and magazines that are being imported into the country. .

With all of this in place, indiscriminate sexual behavior among young people can be reduced, if not eradicated, to a tolerable level.
