Thinking of renting a car in Kuwait but not sure if it is worth the expense? Go ahead, do it. A rented vehicle is a must in Kuwait because the country is mainly surrounded by many deserts. All it takes is a short walk down the street to get sand particles in your mouth. Clearly, the safest way to travel in Kuwait is by renting your own vehicle. The advantage of this arrangement is that you can cover more distances in less time. These are some of the attractions that you may be interested in visiting.

Failaka Island: If you are addicted to archeology, stop by Failaka Island. There you will find a Greek temple, as well as some Greek and Bronze Age relics.

Al Jahra: In the old days, traditional style sambuks and boums were mainly built in Al jahrah. They still are, actually, but the old-school ships built there are no longer used for pearl trading or fishing, but for recreation or decoration.

The Kazmah Desert Cliffs: Want a great view of the bay? Go straight on Highway 80, then turn right to go to Highway 801 and then Bubiyan. Once there, take the first exit you see and then turn left. This should take you straight to the Kazmah desert cliffs. Many young Kuwaitis frequent this area on weekends to race their quads and jeeps uphill. The Kazmah is one of the few elevated areas in the Kuwait desert, so you can get an excellent view of the bay while you are there.

What will soon become clear to you while you remain in Kuwait is that the country is largely a vast uninhabited desert. The fastest route to any desert location is any of the following:

North on Highway 801 West on Highway 70 South on Highway 306

However, don’t worry if you can’t remember these three routes. If you stay long enough on any road from the city, you will surely end up in a place where there is nothing but sand!
