Zorro is an American action drama series produced by Disney Productions. The series made its first appearance in a public performance on October 10, 1957 on ABC and ended on June 2, 1959, completing its seventy-eight episodes.

The series is based on a famous character, Zorro, who has appeared in numerous books, movies, television series, and other media. Zorro appears as a handsome black-robed masked outlaw and defends the people of the land against tyrannical officials and other villains. Don Diego de la Vega, a former college student, called by his father from Spain to his home outside Los Angeles to help fight. He has won medals by grilling him in Spain, but decides that his best course of action is to hide his skill with a sword and affect the demeanor of a foolish intellectual rather than a decisive man of action. Before arriving in California, Diego learns of Capitán Monasterio’s autocracy and realizes that his father called him to fight for injustice.

El Zorro, the other image of Don Alejandro de la Vega, operates at night and performs actions that Don cannot perform directly, sometimes disturbing his relationship with his father. Don is totally dependent on his wits, with and without a mask. Deigo is also known as a respected figure in his own right, an intelligent thinker, and a faithful and trustworthy friend. Diego Vega is a character name appearing in Johnston McCulley’s writing that is later expanded to Diego de la Vega in the Disney versions.

Don Alejandro de la Vega, represented by George J. Lewis, possesses great power and influence, and owns a large ranch and many cattle. He has a great sense of morality. Alejandro is among the richest in California due to his cattle and land and becomes an influential community leader. He sometimes faces a lot of trouble due to his impulsive nature. Don Alejandro finally finds out the identity of his son and begins to strongly favor him. Before playing Don Alejandro on the Disney series, co-star George J. Lewis had a supporting role on Ghost of Zorro.
