If you’re thinking of upgrading your Android smartphone just because it’s not as fast as it used to be, think again. Outdated specs play a big part, but a few tweaks can get things back on track.

In this short guide, I’m going to describe five tips to make your smartphone more snappy than ever.

Tip 1: Never flush cached data

There are many experts which tells you to clean your phone’s cache regularly, but there is a reason that cached data resides on your phone. Allows quick access to the applications you use frequently.

When you clear cached data, Android loads an app from your phone’s storage space, and this leads to slow app launch. So in an attempt to speed up your smartphone, you may end up doing the opposite.

Tip 2: Uninstall useless apps

It is better to uninstall those applications that you rarely use, to prevent them from running in the background and using the memory (RAM) of the smartphone.

To view the list of installed apps and uninstall them, follow these steps:

Settings < Apps < View the list of apps in 'Downloaded' tab < Select any app < Uninstall

Tip 3 – Disable animations

You must have noticed some transition effects when a popup appears or when you move back and forth on your Android phone. These animations also consume RAM. If your phone is slow, you’d better disable such effects.

First you need to turn on developer options and to do that go to phone settings, select “About phone”, go to “Build number” and tap on it 7 times. Android will make you a developer (the easiest course of all, right?).

Now, hit the “back” button and tap to open “Developer Options”. In the Drawing section of “Developer Options” you will find “Window Animation Scale”, “Transition Animation Scale” and “Animator Animation Scale”.

You can select all three one by one and disable their animation effect.

Although the transitions will not be as aesthetic as they were, you will notice the improvement in the performance of your phone.

Tip 4 – Disable preloaded apps

If your phone is an Android and not a nexus, your manufacturer may have passed you some useless apps that you don’t use but can’t uninstall. It is not a problem! You can always disable such apps.

To do this, long press any preloaded application and drag it to the “Application info” icon on the home screen; then tap “Disable”. Although the app will still take up your storage space, at least it won’t run in the background.

Tip 5: Send files to the cloud

If your phone gallery takes forever to open, you need to find a new place to safely store your video and image files.

You can download “Google drive” or “Dropbox” or any other cloud service on your smartphone and send your files to the cloud. It will not only allow you to free up some storage space, but also allow you to access your photos and videos from any other smartphone or PC.

These 5 tips may convince you to keep your good friend Android for at least a while to come.
