The location of the rug is probably one of the most important considerations when planning to buy a rug. Common rug sizes are 4’x6′ and 6’x9′; an 8×10 foot rug can cover an entire room. You can go for scattered rugs that are a good adornment for small spaces like the fireplace, bed, or kitchen sink. These rugs bring warmth and vitality to the room and complement your décor to the fullest.

Here are some tips on placing rugs in your home.

  • Rooms – Place your area rug in front of the seating area, preferably under the coffee table if you have one. If you want a stand-alone piece to cover an extension of hardwood flooring, choose one that brings out the sheen of the floor. The size should allow an expanse of wood to be seen on all sides for best effect.
  • Dinning room Benefit from a large area rug that fits nicely under the table. When taking your measurements for the rug, make sure the width includes when you take out the dining chairs. Otherwise, you’ll end up with the front of the chair on the rug and not the back legs!
  • Corridors and entrance areas – Rugs made of wool pile with a strong cotton or jute backing are ideal. Light colors are not a good choice for these areas.
  • stairs and passages – look for dark patterned rugs for these areas due to the amount of foot traffic they will have to endure. Secure them with rug pads to prevent slipping and accidents.
  • Bedrooms – you can choose smaller rugs that go to the sides or foot of the bed to add a touch of color to the room. There is no point in buying expensive oriental rugs that will mostly be covered by the bed.

Use your imagination and bring your rooms to life with your choice of placement rugs, paying attention to the placement of the rug in each room for maximum effect.
