There are many of us who spend most of our day at work, actually more time working than sleeping. We take pride in the jobs we do and dedicate all of our time and energy to performing our job duties to the best of our ability. This means many late nights at the office or laying power lines in the pre-dawn hours in rural landscapes. No matter what our job entails, we do our best to perform at our best day in and day out. This may be why we recoil in shock when faced with the employer who refuses to fight for our rights when he is injured on the job.

Too often, employers are stingy when it comes to supporting their injured employees, even though they pay premiums to workers’ compensation insurance to cover such incidents. Obviously, they are more concerned about their bottom line than an employee who was injured while working for them. This is deeply frustrating because we spend so much time at work giving it our all and expecting our employer to keep their end of the bargain. Too often, they don’t.

An injured person no longer knows what to do, the last thing they need to exhaust their new and delicate situation is to start a war with the employer and the worker’s compensation insurer. All of his attention should be focused on recovering from his injury and getting back to work, without exhausting himself fighting for his rights to get paid for medical bills and lost wages. This is where the prudent employee hires an attorney to act on his behalf.

Having an attorney on your side to fight for your rights will greatly ease the stress of dealing with your company and the worker’s compensation representative. A good attorney will also pay your medical bills and compensate you for all hours missed from work. You will be much better off with a lawyer because they are the experts on this matter and you are not.

Many people don’t think it’s necessary to hire an attorney, and some even believe they will spend more on an attorney than they get from workers’ compensation. While it is sometimes true that companies will help you pay for your medical bills and compensation for time lost from work, the fact is that you will get more money with a lawyer because they know how to better navigate the system and use it to obtain your customers as much as possible.

Suffering an injury at work is not a party. When we suffer and cannot work, our income, families and emotional well-being suffer. It seems only natural that the hard work we put in on behalf of our employers and the pride we take in our jobs would be recognized in some way by our company and they would reciprocate accordingly by supporting us in our time of need.

The reality of the situation is that an injured employee is still fighting alone. At this point, it becomes abundantly clear that having a legal expert on your side will not only give you more compensation than you would on your own, but it will also relieve some of the stress and frustration this situation causes for someone who is already injured. You deserve someone who demands that your rights be respected and who will fight for you until you receive everything that belongs to you.
