Therefore, there will be new class combinations in World of Warcraft in 2010 when Cataclysm is released. Some are funny (cough… gnome priests… cough), some are obvious (human hunters), and some are just plain interesting. One class and career combo that falls firmly into that latter category is Dwarf Shaman. The second class for the Alliance to pick up totems will be the Dwarf race, the same stout, beer-drinking little warriors who are currently paladins, hunters, and rogues. So what will the new combo mean for players of the game who have been fans of shamans or dwarves for a long time?

The short answer is, not much. Dwarves are funny because their lore is very entertaining. They’re big and strong, so they’re not as pranksters as gnomes tend to be, but they’re also funny in a lot of ways. So, it’s kind of hard to step back and think that they’ll be there with flying robes and spinning totem poles like the other races currently using the shamanic arts.

the totems

One of the biggest questions is how the totem poles will look. How will Dwarven totems be different from Draenaeic or Tauren totems? Chances are we’ll see something interesting like axes, hammers, or stone totems and Blizzard has already confirmed that they’ll be getting their own totem skin.

knowledge

The lore is going to be the most interesting part. At first it seemed a bit like Blizzard was just doing this whole class run combo as fan service, but now they’ve shown that they plan to integrate it all into the lore of the game and make it interesting. So what exactly will make the Dwarves collect totems and sign their spells? It will be a great new and interesting expansion for anyone who decides to play again like this exciting new opportunity to play a shaman.
