Sri Lankan casinos are among the few that are legal in South Asia. In fact, the entire country is quite a bit more laid back and relaxed about these things than anywhere else in the region. This is probably an influence of the mainstream religion, Buddhism, which pays far less attention to what other people should do than to what the individual might want to think about doing. That is not something so common among religions.

While gambling and casinos are legal throughout the island, Sri Lankan casinos are found in just two cities. One in Kollupitiya and the others are all in Colombo.

A list of Sri Lankan casinos includes:

Kollupitiya: Casino Kollupitiya

Columbus:

bally’s club

bellagio casino

mainland club

crown club

MGM Club

stardust club

ritz club

tokyo club

As you can see from the names and their similarities to Las Vegas and elsewhere, these aren’t just local outposts. They are clean, well-functioning and reliable casinos.

There are probably many more casinos on the whole island, but we cannot know how many. Because only those with a casino license can call themselves a casino, while almost anyone can play a game of luck. So we don’t know the true number of casinos in Sri Lanka or if you prefer we know that nine call themselves casinos so that’s the number there is.

Sri Lanka the island is a nearby tropical paradise (along with all the implications of that, including a separatist war in the north). Formerly known as Ceylon, it was a British colony and has also had significant Dutch and Portuguese influences. The latter added a dose of Catholicism to the religious mix of the islands, the Dutch a bit of Protestantism, and the British, in their own way, did not take religion very seriously. There are also significant Muslim and Hindu minorities.

One of the strangest remnants of that colonial history is in the kitchen. Although the British took curry and tea from the islands, you can still see traditional foods such as Bolo Fado, a Portuguese-style layer cake, Breuhder, the Dutch Christmas cake, and other influences kept by the Burgher People ( a long-standing rather than traditional cultural tradition). racial group, descended from intermarriage between the various colonial invaders and the locals).

With the multiple ethnic groups and religions on the island, and despite the great rebellion in the north, Sri Lanka is generally a welcoming and relaxed place. There are certainly no protests to insist that people should stop doing what they want to do, as long as it does no harm to anyone else, which may explain the number and popularity of Sri Lankan casinos.
