Skoda launched its flagship, the Skoda Superb, a few months ago. It is an excellent car that combines luxury with power and lives up to the name of the Czech manufacturer. The Skoda came to the Indian market about a decade ago and the car has made a name for itself for its reliability and durability. The new Skoda superb that has been launched has also garnered good reviews in Europe, where the Czech-made car holds its own against other similar cars.

The car is built on a VW Passat platform as it comes from the same stable. But it has more legroom compared to the Passat. The car comes in gasoline and diesel versions and it certainly competes with other brands like Camry and Accord. The Superb has a very capable petrol engine and a brilliant diesel engine and is therefore a much better bet than the previous Superb. In short, if you’re looking for a D-segment sedan, you can’t just ignore the Superb. It is a stately sedan and has all the makings of a great car.

The car is loaded with the usual goodies. It also has a luxurious feel with touch screen stereo. The usual features available on a high-end car are all there, like climate control and cruise control.

The Superb comes with three engine variants, starting with a 1.8 TSI turbo petrol, the 2.0-litre PD engine and finally the powerful Superb with the V6 petrol engine. The 1.8 petrol has a power of 160 hp and can travel 100 km in about 10 seconds. That’s pretty good. However, in case you are looking for better economy than the 2.0 diesel, it will come in very handy. It generates 140 hp and can travel 100 km in 12 seconds. In addition, in real driving conditions in the city, the car registers 10 km per liter and on the highway it can get 15. Which is fine and will not squeeze your pocket.

Lastly, if you’re looking for refinement, the V6 is definitely your cup of tea. It generates a staggering 260bhp and accelerates to 100km in less than 8 seconds. The power from this FSI engine goes to all four wheels, making it the safest executive sedan to drive in adverse weather conditions such as slippery and wet roads.

The Skoda Superb has shown that a European sedan can take on established players in the segment like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The car is an excellent buy and is priced between Rs 22-25 laky. However, the V6 will set you back 30 rupees, but the extra features and 4×4 system alone make up for the relatively high price.

The Skoda Superb is definitely a car that is head and shoulders above similar Japanese cars. It also has an excellent dealer network and the car can be repaired at centers across India. Parts are not a problem with such an extensive dealer and maintenance network. The Skoda is certainly good value for money. In case you have the money, buying a Skoda superb is an excellent proposition. It’s like buying a cheaper version of the Merc and it will tickle your palate.
