Puppy training is the first step in disciplining your dog. You have to understand that the dog is, after all, an animal and it will take a little more time to understand what you are trying to get the dog to do. However, once your dog has understood what you are saying and what actions of yours to follow, you can both work wonders!

First, you must buy a puppy according to what your household may require. There is absolutely no point in buying a pug and expecting it to be a guard dog. There is a difference between a guard dog and a guard dog. A pug is, for example, a good watchdog, all dogs are. But he will be a hopeless watchdog. No matter how well or how much you train it, it will never be able to protect or ward off intruders. So before you buy a dog, you need to decide on the purpose that the dog will serve in your residence.

Once you have decided on a breed, you should read all about it. You must know what to expect from the breed and what not to expect. For example, a Dalmatian is called the firefighter’s dog and is used by them because the breed is known to exhibit great bravery and detect thinking in crisis situations. You can’t expect a miniature Pomeranian to run into a burning building and rescue people. In fact, you should expect the complete opposite from Pomeranians!

Once you’ve read all about your dog and decided on a training program, you need to decide what you intend to use as bait or treats to entice your dog to do his chores. Always use foods that the dog likes. If your dog doesn’t like dry bread or breadsticks, there’s no point in using them as bait. On the other hand, if you plan to train at consecutive intervals for a short period of time, then you can’t use something that will take forever for the dog to consume. For example, you can’t use a meaty bone (even though your dog likes it better) while training him to “sit still.” It will just act the opposite way. The dog will sit with his bone and chew comfortably and will not respond to any of your other tasks.

Always use small foods that are bite sized. You can also use regular kibble as bait. The best bait to use is liver. You can buy any liver in the market, boil it well and then dry it. Cut it into small pieces and use them as bait. Just the smell of bits of liver will make your dog listen to every command you give him.

It is also important that you are mentally prepared to be patient and spend a lot of time with the same command so that your pup fully understands what you mean. Don’t lose your temper and hit the dog, it won’t work in your favor and could ruin your relationship with the animal.

Before you start training your puppy, you need to train yourself to be more understanding and gentle with him. Initially, this may seem like a chore, but these will be the best bonding moments for both of you!
